Dear Anna Eshoo,
A Washington Post article from September 30th is titled, "China leading the world in clean energy investment" and tells how the gap will increase. Meanwhile, this year we've seen more record temperatures, droughts and floods, and grain prices are soaring.
You are in the perfect position to help fix this, and at the same time create more jobs for Americans.
An important piece of the solution in the US is to make green energy competitive with coal, oil and gas. This can be done with the Carbon Fee and Dividend act. It's a simple bill, taxing carbon-based fuels at their sources in mines and wells or where they come into the country, and distributing all of that tax to Americans to pay for the increased costs. Meanwhile, energy from solar, wind, geothermal and water is not taxed, making them relatively cheaper.
The tax goes up yearly for 10 years and then levels, giving businesses a known future to plan for.
Please, we need to get this passed quickly so our capitalist economy can be harnessed to combat the global warming crisis, and at the same time, build up the renewable energy industry in the US.
